Co-Founder and Research Director of Silent Spring Consultants, Dr Andrea Armstrong FRGS, is an experienced senior researcher with a PhD in Geography and a BSc in Environment and Development (both Dunelm). She has background training in social science (human geography, environmental economics, European politics and policy and environmental legislation) and natural science (physical geography, biology, ecology and geology). This multi-disciplinary background has allowed her to develop a research career involving innovative trans-disciplinary research in areas such as cities and climate change, nature-based solutions, the dynamics of trust in social and digital minority landscapes, ethics in community-based participatory research and connecting communities through research. Throughout, public engagement and co-production with diverse partners, stakeholders and audiences (beyond academia) has been an integral part of these research projects. Working with people and sharing knowledge to achieve mutually beneficial, just outcomes is at the core of her approach.
Dr Armstrong is still active at Durham University, UK and is a researcher at Vrije Universiteit Brussels (VUB), Belgium. She is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, the Wolfson Research Institute for Health and Wellbeing and a Member of the American Association of Geographers. She has won awards for her research and its impact and was invited to speak on BBC Look North News about urban regeneration in Newcastle and Gateshead, UK.
Co-founder and Managing Director of Silent Spring Consultants, Wim Pulinx, studied law in the University of Antwerp and is responsible for leading the company’s corporate presence and for identifying and directing new business opportunities in our fields of expertise. Due to his experience in the business world Wim knows how to translate academic knowledge into practical solutions for your organisation. In the past, Wim served under the UN flag in Kosovo, Mali, Tanzania and many other countries where he experienced the needs of the people in areas that needed help the most.
